About Our Practice
Do You Hate Your CPAP Machine?
It is good for you. But, now there is an alternative.
Are you one of the more than 25 million people in the United States that suffer from Sleep Apnea?
If so there are recent developments in available therapy that will make your life easier. In February of 2006 the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, using data from the National Institutes Of Health, published a finding that in mild and moderate cases of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) a simple oral appliance can the replace the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine that have been the standard treatment for years.
These oral appliances, called Mandibular Advancement Splints, (MAS) are available from specially trained dentists.
They offer several advantages. They require no power, no mask, no tubes and wires, and as a result are better tolerated by the patient. This increased comfort and tolerance leads to higher patient compliance with treatment and improved outcomes. Further they are very durable, and since they have no external parts to lose or deteriorate, and no moving parts to break, they are less expensive to maintain.
